It’s officially Halloween week! This week, I’m going to be sharing fun crafts, recipes & parties all in honor of this spooktacular time of year. Today’s post comes from Britni of Play. Party. Pin
She shows us in this fun DIY how to make your very own spiderweb plates using paper plates & colored duck tape. I’m a sucker for inexpensive party supplies & decor because I know how costly a party can be. Let’s hear how Britni turned these plain jane paper plates into something any kid would love.

“I talked about it a little bit on my Facebook page this week, but hosting a party doesn’t have to break the bank. If it did, I’m pretty sure I’d be completely broke with the monthly (and sometimes more) parties I plan. I love having themed dishes and paper good for parties, but it can get so expensive. That’s why I love customizing my own like these fun DIY spiderweb plates I made for the Halloween party I’m hosting later this month.
The best thing about these plates is that they are so inexpensive to make and look much more festive than just plain orange plates. Dollar General has a fantastic selection of Halloween products including the orange plates and black and white duck tape that I bought to make my spiderweb plates. I love shopping Halloween at Dollar General because I can get a lot of my favorite staples (like the plates and duck tape) for cheaper than at other stores. They also have a little bit of everything, so if I wanted to, I could have actually bought treats or party favors to go on my plates as well.
Not only are these plates inexpensive, they are so easy to make. The hardest part is really cutting the duck tape, and that’s just because it can be sticky at times. Start off by cutting a piece of white duck tape that measures all the way across the center of your plate.
Then take that piece of duck tape and cut it into four even pieces. And I’ll tell you a trick, duck tape tears like fabric; if you just cut a small little notch in one side, you can just rip the rest to make it easier. Set those four pieces aside until you’re ready to use them.
Now you’re going to take one of those pieces of duck tape and cut it in half. Place one of the halves in the center of the plate, leading from the middle of the plate to the outer edge. You’re going to repeat this with seven, yes seven, halves, spacing them out evenly around the plate. I did one plate with eight, and it just didn’t look as spiderwebby so I recommend seven.
Once you have the seven spokes of the spiderweb, you’re going to cut small pieces of white duck tape to fill in the web. Start in the middle of the web and make your way out by connecting small pieces around in a circle. It’s a spiderweb, so it doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s actually more fun if they’re all a little unique.
Once your spiderweb is complete, use a hole punch to cut out a couple of small circles from the black duck tape (not white like shown in the picture) and place the circles spaced out on the spiderweb.
Then to finish up your plate, take a black permanent marker and draw eight legs on each of the spiders.
That’s it! While it may seem a little complicated at first, it’s really easy. And once you’ve done one, they get easier and faster. It’s a fun little project to work on while catching up on TV since you really don’t have to pay a whole lot of attention to cutting and placing tape.
One last note, since you’re adding duct tape and permanent marker to the plates, I recommend only putting things like wrapped cupcakes, candy boxes, etc. on the plates since I can’t guarantee that the products are food safe. I plan to use mine as to-go plates that people can use to load up on leftover cupcakes and wrapped candy at the end of the party.”
