Our youngest was approaching her fifth birthday and I knew I had to create an extra special theme to celebrate this important milestone. One of my all time favorite movies growing up was The Wizard of Oz. There was something magical about being transported to the Land of Oz; the colors, the glitter and the sparkle always left me wishing to one day travel “Over the Rainbow.” I knew then it would be the perfect theme for our beautiful Madelyn.
With so many ideas and inspirations out there, I wanted to do something a little different. One of my favorite characters from the movie was Glinda, the good witch of the North. Her beauty and kindness just glistened, and knew what the perfect theme would be for my sweet girl.
The party details mimicked Glinda’s beautiful dress and shimmery crown. I used silver and soft pink accents throughout the party, beginning with the invitation through to the favor.
Madelyn wore a custom pink, off the shoulder tutu gown and looked so beautiful in her sparkly crown. It was the perfect dress for her special day.
I used her “bubble” on a few different party elements. One of my favorite details was the bubble chandelier I created using clear holiday ornaments. It sparkled and shined, and was the perfect accent over the dessert table and I was so pleased at how it came out. Everything was embellished with sparkles and glittery details, including the table linen.
As our guests arrived they were greeted with a table of silver, glittery crowns & wands (for the girls) or a wizard hat & magic wizard wand (for the boys). The signage on the table read, “Are you a Good Witch or a Good Wizard?”
I added a glittery mesh border to the frames and dessert table tongs to give them an extra special touch.
Pink and white cupcakes with beautifully detailed fondant toppers and sparkly wands were placed on a stand I embellished with a glitter crown.
Raised crystal pedestal jars were filled with sweet delights, and were adorned with pink satin ribbons and crowns to top them off perfectly.
The guests were treated to an array of sweet treats such as frosted Rice Krispie squares, Pearl white gumballs, shimmery candies of pink and white, a delicious fruit platter and striped pink and white minty marshmallows.
Even the pink and white striped and chevron straws were topped with a sparkly star signifying Glinda’s magic wand.
After the party, the guests were given ‘bubble’ ornaments filled with sweet treasurers to remember the special day.
Happy birthday, sweet Madelyn. May you always remember just how special you are to us and that, “There’s no place like home.”
